Youth Cricket Classes in Sterling & Loudoun County

January 12, 20268 min readSterling, VA

Cricket is one of the fastest-growing youth sports in Northern Virginia, but families new to the game often have the same first question: where do I actually take my kid to learn it properly? In Sterling and greater Loudoun County, that answer is Revolution Cricket Academy, based at The Sports Club at Dulles, 45500 Ruritan Circle, Sterling, VA 20164.

This guide walks through how youth cricket classes are structured here - by age, by skill level, and by what a typical week looks like - so parents in Sterling, Ashburn, Herndon and beyond can figure out where their child fits.

Cricket by age group

Revolution Cricket Academy runs four age-banded programs that carry a player from a first introduction to the sport through competitive, high-performance cricket in the teenage years.

ProgramAgesFocus
Blast Ball Cricket5–8Beginner, soft ball, game-based introduction
Smash Ball Cricket8–11Transition to hardball, technical foundations
Bring It On CricketU13 / U15Competitive - strength, tactics, tournaments
Out of My Way CricketU17 / U19High performance - video analysis, regional/national pathways

What a beginner session looks like (Blast Ball, ages 5–8)

Blast Ball Cricket is deliberately game-based rather than drill-heavy. At five, six and seven years old, kids learn a sport by playing small, fun versions of it - not by standing in line waiting for a turn. Coaches use a soft ball so young players can swing freely, field without fear, and build confidence before technique is layered on.

  • Soft-ball equipment sized for small hands and short attention spans
  • Short, rotating stations so no child stands idle for long
  • Coordination, throwing and catching worked into games, not isolated drills
  • An emphasis on fun and repetition over correcting technique too early

Building technique (Smash Ball, ages 8–11)

Smash Ball Cricket is the bridge between an introductory soft-ball program and real cricket. Players in this age band start the transition toward hardball and begin working on the technical foundations - batting stance and grip, bowling action, and basic fielding positions - that everything later in the sport is built on.

Competitive cricket for U13/U15 (Bring It On)

Bring It On Cricket is where the sport becomes genuinely competitive. Players in this band combine strength and conditioning work with tactical understanding of the game, and the program is built around tournament play rather than just practice.

High performance for U17/U19 (Out of My Way)

Out of My Way Cricket is the academy's top tier, aimed at serious teenage players targeting regional and national pathways. Training includes video analysis alongside tactical and physical preparation, coached with an eye toward the level of competition players will face beyond youth cricket.

Who is coaching

Programs are led by head coach and founder Nasir Durrani, a USA National Team player, ICC Level 1 certified coach with roughly seven years of coaching experience and a former Atlantic Region U19 coach. He is joined by Omar AbdulRahimzai, a championship-winning player and captain; Dr. Nail Miakhail, president of the Washington Cricket League and the Afghan Cricket Club; and Coach Miro, who focuses on fielding and wicket-keeping.
